Undergraduate Social and Behavioral Sciences Degrees

Behavioral Science Degree: For those students who wish to broaden their major field to include both Psychology and Sociology, Mercy College offers a multidisciplinary major concentration in Behavioral Science with specializations Gerontology, Community Health, and Health Services Management. A major in Behavioral Science provides a solid foundation for graduate training that leads to careers in such areas as Counseling, Guidance, Personnel, or Community Health.

Criminal Justice Degree: The Criminal Justice degree from Mercy College in New York is a four year program designed to enhance the professional standing of the student who is already working in the criminal justice system, to prepare the pre-service student who is seeking to work in the system, and to give to the general student a knowledge of the Criminal Justice system and its impact on everyday life. The greatest strength of the Criminal Justice program at Mercy College is the academic and professional diversity of the faculty and the multi disciplinary approach in the curriculum. A balanced curriculum is reflected in courses which provide the student with an academic, legal, and professional understanding of Criminal Justice. The faculty includes, lawyers and professionals who have worked in the Criminal Justice system.

Environmental Health and Safety Management Degree: This degree provides the student with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to be effective in either the public or private sectors. Students acquire knowledge in such important areas as industrial hygiene, environmental law, safety codes, fire protection, and fleet motor transportation they will apply in the work environment.

Human Services Associate Degree: The Human Services degree from Mercy College provides the student with hands on training in one of the three areas of specialization:

  • Child care
  • Substance Abuse Counseling

Each of the three programs is designed to give the student the knowledge and skills needed for your profession, and as well as a paid internship worth six college credits as part of your Associate degree.

Legal Studies Degree: Mercy College offers a four-year major concentration in Legal Studies with a specialization in Paralegal Studies leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree. The program, approved by the American Bar Association, is designed for students seeking a career in law offices, government, corporations, finance, insurance or real estate as a paraprofessional. Graduates of the Degree Program are trained specialists who can manage law office operations, assist attorneys in handling legal problems and assume clerical duties routinely performed by attorneys. Graduates are also capable of conducting legal research, designing and developing new procedures, and analyzing and reviewing legal documents.

Legal Studies/Political Science Degree: This degree prepares the student for Law School with pre-law curriculum, including LSAT Coaching. It will also prepare the student for careers in politics and administration or for graduate school. Students will benefit from small classes, an intimate and supportive Atmosphere, and a wide variety of political science and law courses.

Social Work Degree: A degree in psychology from Mercy College provides a solid foundation for graduate education (or studies) that can lead to a career in areas such as Clinical Psychology, Marketing Research, Industrial Psychology, or Psychological Research. The Psychology degree is also excellent preparation for any person-to-person career including Teaching, Social Service, Government, Law, Human Resources, Sales and Management.

Psychology Degree: Mercy College offers a baccalaureate program in social work which is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Students with a B.S. in Social Work are prepared for entry-level professional positions in the field. Graduates are also eligible for application to advanced standing programs in graduate schools of social work. An important part of social work is the field internships in social agencies. Field internships provide students with the opportunity to learn and develop the professional skills of helping.

Sociology Degree: A degree in Sociology can prepare you for graduate study or research in such areas as: Social Change, Urban Sociology, Urban Planning, Social Organization and Bureaucracies, or Crime and Delinquency.
