  Graduate Degree Programs

Graduate Social and Behavioral Sciences Degrees


Counseling Degree: The purpose of the Master of Science Degree Program in Counseling is to train students to become counselors in urban and suburban school settings and in public and private agencies. Two certifications and three advanced certificates are offered within the degree program. The advanced certificates enhance student knowledge and training in one of the three areas. Successful completion of the School Counselor Program leads to recommendation to the New York State Education Department for provisional certification as a school counselor. Students completing the Bilingual School Counselor Program will be recommended for provisional certification as a school counselor and also for a bilingual extension to the certificate.

Health Services Management Degree: Mercy College offers two programs in Health Services Management which have been designed to prepare graduates for roles as health care managers for the 21st century: the M.P.A. Master of Public Administration in Health Services Management, and the M.S. Master of Science in Health Services Management.

Psychology Degree: The purpose of the Master of Science in Psychology Degree Program is to provide graduate education in psychology through a course of studies designed for students who wish to extend their knowledge of psychology, who desire to qualify for employment requiring psychological skills and/or plan to pursue eventual doctoral study. Professional concerns are emphasized throughout the program.

School Psychology Degree: Mercy College offers a Master of Science Degree Program in School Psychology to prepare matriculated students to become school psychologists capable of serving the needs of children in today's diverse schools and agencies. Students completing the 60 credit General Program will be recommended for provisional certification as a school psychologist to the New York State Education Department.

Marriage and Family Therapy Degree: The MS in Marriage and Family Therapy is registered by the New York State Education Department, Office of Professional Affairs to offer the MS degree for licensure-eligibility in Marriage and Family Therapy. This 45-credit program includes coursework in family systems, clinical assessment and psychotherapy of dysfunctional families, prevention of emotional problems arising from domestic violence, illness, unemployment, and the court system. Practicum requirements are met through Mercy College's many affiliations with agencies, mental health facilities, hospitals, and private practice settings. Most graduates are able to complete the program in two years through part-time attendance of evening classes. Courses may be taken as nonmatriculation status in order to complete licensure requirements.
